Sunny and a little warm. Is it already spring?
Yukihiro Takahashi passed away. Very sad. I mourn him by listening to the album of “Sketch Show,” his favorite unit with Mr. Hosono. As I listened to the album, I began to worry about Ryuichi Sakamoto’s health, of whom I am a big fan. Incidentally, Playing the Piano, which was on NHK the other night, was really wonderful.
In the past, when drinking with my literary friends, we often talked about who we looked like if we were members of YMO (I apologize for my presumptuousness).
I was always told, “You must be Yukihiro Takahashi. I remember I was quite shocked because I didn’t know much about him at the time (sorry for the repetition). Since then, I started listening to Yukihiro Takahashi’s music with intention. However, they were not bad at all when I heard them. I began to think it was great.
Yukihiro Takahashi once said that Haruomi Hosono was a “genius,” Ryuichi Sakamoto a “genius,” and himself an “ordinary genius,” but that is not true at all.
That is why talented musicians such as Keigo Oyamada and Towa Tei adored him and made activities such as METAFIVE possible. That may be the “connecting of talents” that the other two members of YMO do not have.
Oh, I suddenly feel sad after writing this far, METAFIVE is going to end…sad.
